OCCUPANTS
A Couple at the age of 30
Brief
–
A young couple’s first home. Entire re-haul.
PROJECT DESCRIPTOIN
–
We tore down the entire pre-existing structure and started completely from scratch.
There was a lot of design noise before the renovation. The kitchen was asymmetric and its style didn’t match the apartment. The frames of the blinds were too dominant, each room had different tiles and the rooms were all angled. This young couple was expecting their first child, and there was little space in the common area for him to run around.
I started by quieting everything down and creating a white envelope within the entire house. The different floors were replaced by a concrete floor that was used throughout. Walls were broken to create square spaces, and turn the apartment from a 4-bedroom to a 3.5 bedroom without angles, and with a bigger common area and lots of room for their baby to play in the future. The bathroom also got its own concrete floors, and the shower and tub were merged into one. This fit all the needs of the couple: a bath for their new baby, a shower for them, and additional space in the bathroom.
The frames for the blinds were hidden by soft roman curtains that maintained the clean feeling of the white walls. And the kitchen was designed with clean lines to generate a feeling of space.
